The Royal College of Music Junior Department Jazz
Ensemble’s sixteen-piece big band makes its sixth appearance at Late Night Jazz in the Elgar
Room, breaking down into smaller combos to perform a broad spectrum of
jazz and world music, spanning swing, bebop, jazz-funk, latin, afrobeat and
other popular styles.
The band performs regularly at the Royal College of Music,
together with annual gigs at the Royal Albert Hall and 606 Club. Their
eclectic repertoire features music from the swing era of the 1930s right up to
the present day, including works by Benny Goodman, Miles Davis, Stan Getz,
Charles Mingus, Michael Bublé, Herbie Hancock, The Yellowjackets, Gordon
Goodwin and Snarky Puppy. In 2024, they premièred a new work by Alastair Martin
and previous commissions include a work for big band, premiered at Ronnie Scott’s.
